Press Democrat: Von David’s Mission bis zum Tagesablauf auf Tour.

30 Nov

Der Press Democrat-Idolblogger Bill Pinella hat anlässlich von David’s Konzert in Santa Rosa diverse kleine Info- und Interview-Happen zu David veröffentlicht:

Archuleta’s Mission

David Archuleta is Mormon by faith. And at some point Mormons go on a mission to spread that faith.

So, will Archuleta, who turns 19 next month, ever do that?

Here is his explanation:

“A Mission? You know, I wasn’t kind of expecting this to happen. I was 16 and it (his music career) started early in a way.

“Seeing all the things that have happened and the stories I heard. It wasn’t like I was preaching or stuff when I was singing on the show (American Idol) …but with Imagine (the song), people would come up and say how it affected them.

“Every single letter I got during the show …they would say how they felt something and wanted to thank me.

“They felt something in my music and that is a big part of my belief. It was good to feel like people were feeling the same thing I was and to share that with people. Just to see how powerful of a tool music can be.

“I feel like the Lord surprises you. Like, ‘Hey I need you here and will you commit to being the best with the talent I have given you and the opportunity I have given you.

“I owe so much to Him and I give it back to Him cause He’s given me so much. Whatever way I can serve Him is what I want to do. It’s just figuring out the best way to do that. It all plays a big part of my life.

“It’s not exactly a mission, but it’s a way of doing missionary work.

“It is amazing to see how much of an example you can be for other people. People will pay attention to the example you set. It always amazes me. It’s very cool to see that. That has been one of the coolest things of this whole experience.”

So, will he be doing any church work during his brief stay in Stanta Rosa?

“No. It just gets difficult when I’m on my own headlining a show, going to a different city every day. It’s hard with so many different people wanting you to do things.”

Archuleta’s Self-Assessment

David Archuleta…

Does he ever do the “instant replay” thing?

Will he check out his performance at the Wells Fargo Center tonight on video tape on Monday?

Maybe, but probably not…

“Yes, I critique myself,” Archuleta told Idol Chatter. “You are your own worst critic. I think I’m a little hard on myself.

“Sometimes I can’t stand to look at my concerts. I don’t like to look at myself. I just think it’s so weird looking at yourself and listening to yourself.

“But I definitely need to do it more. It’s something I need to get over because it really does help when you can look and see what kind of things you can improve on.”

Archuleta’s Typical Work Day

It certainly varies, and I doubt that David Archuleta is outside now checking out the changing colors on the grapevines around Sonoma County before his concert tonight, but….

Idol Chatter did ask Archuleta what a normal concert day was for him.
Here is his response:

“I usually do interviews in the morning and then check out the place where we are going to perform. But that depends on how long it is to drive from the other (previous) city. (He was in Bakersfield Saturday night).

“Sometimes you get there in late morning, sometimes around noonish. We go and you will have a sound track and then sometime a ‘Meet & Greet.’ You try to eat something in between those things.

“It gets to be a routine. Then you go on stage, perform and do the show and after that go back and pack and put everything back on the bus and drive to the next city.

“It’s a routine thing. You usually don’t get to see much of anything.”

P.S. It would be a perfect day for him to explore the area. It’s about 70, not a cloud in the sky. Perfect Wine Country fall day.

Would David Archuleta Sing Along?

We’ve all done it. Cruising along in the car, radio on, song we are vaguely familiar with comes on and we start to sing along.

Thought came to mind – what is it like to be a recording artist and that happens to you? More specifically, what if it were your song playing on the radio? Would you sing along to yourself?

Idol Chatter asked that question to David Archuleta…

Here is his response:

“Oh, my gosh, I would change the station,” he answered laughing. “It would be the the weirdest thing. I am used to hearing other people.

“It would just be freaky to hear myself on the radio, but I’d have to change it. It’s like … wow.”

Archuleta’s Tour… How Did It Come Together?

It certainly wasn’t a reach for David Archuleta to decide on a Christmas theme for his mini-tour that makes a stop in Santa Rosa on Sunday (Nov. 29th). Afterall, he loves the season.

Here’s his explanation of the Tour as he told Idol Chatter a couple of weeks ago:

“The Tour kind of went hand-in-hand with the Christmas album I recorded. A Christmas album is something that I always wanted to do. Christmas music … that’s like one of the biggest times of the year for me to really be singing.

“It’s been my favorite music to sing cause I have been singing it every year since I was a little kid. And now to be able to put those songs on an album with orchestral arrangements is a really neat thing to do.

“It’s a great to be able to share that with other people and it’s just meaningful for me to be able to do that, to mix those songs that I recorded with a tour.”

Santa Rosa will be the 5th stop on a 19-city tour. He will be in Bakersfield on Saturday night and playing at the Warfield in San Francisco on Monday.

Konzertkritik für Santa Rosa: „Junge, was für eine Stimme!“

Super Konzertkritik für David vom Santa Rosa Press Democrat:

An Archuleta concert is all about “the voice”
by Bill Pinella

Concerts have a certain sameness to them – merchandise table, slightly late start, opening act you wish would hurry up, grand entrance of the main act. You know the routine.

Then comes the star of the show and one of two things occur after the obligatory 90 minute performance – you soon forget the act on the way home or you don’t.

You don’t forget David Archuleta.

Why?

Pretty simple – his voice.

Although as one of the judges on American Idol proclaimed two seasons ago when Archuleta finished second – “David, you could sing the phone book” – his 90-minute, one encore show Sunday night at the Wells Fargo Center was anything but songs from the Yellow Pages.

Dubbed David Archuleta’s “Christmas from the Heart” tour, it was really a combination of about half pretty pure pop Archuleta and half Christmas.

The venue wasn’t full, but it was close; the crowd wasn’t all screaming teenage girls, but it was close; and the songs weren’t all perfect, but they were close.

If you came just to hear for yourself if what you were hearing on Idol was real, well you found out – yes, and moreso.

At time, it was hard to fathom that you were listening to an 18-year old kid from Utah because the voice is something most singers take years to cultivate. And although he has been at this singing gig for much of his young life, the voice is still natural. They just don’t teach what Archuleta projects.

The first half of the show hit a peak with Zero Gravity and then Crush. The latter being his first mega-hit off his initial self-titled album.

Archuleta and his four-piece band took a mini-break to change clothes, alter the stage and change the mood to the holidays.

“It just seems so odd that we are really into the holidays now,” Archuleta said. “I’ve been working on this album for six months and now it’s finally here.”

He sang eight Christmas songs and if ever there was a voice holiday-appropriate it is Archuleta’s. Every song he did just seemed to get better. Ave Maria sung in Spanish (Er meint wohl in Latein – Anm. d. Red.) was then topped by a song in French – Pat-A-Pan. Then he went back to Spanish and a song titled Riu Riu Chiu, then Silent Night and finally an encore of O Holy Night.

He wasn’t perfect. Someone on Idol had given him the advice to not close his eyes while he sings, but he did that often. And his connection to the audience between songs was a bit scattered.

But who came to see his eyes or listen to him speak words of wisdom?

We came to hear the voice. And, oh, my, did we.
